Frequency Asked Questions
Do you accept health insurance?
No, services follow the private-pay model. Upon request, I can provide a detailed invoice called a Superbill for you to submit for reimbursement to your insurance company. Please ask!
Payment in full will be due at time of booking and can be made via payment app (i.e. Venmo, Zelle, Apple Cash, etc).
Why Cash-Based? This model ensures the fastest access and the highest quality of care by taking out insurance plans that limit how many visits you are approved for. Additionally, it allows for services to always be one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy for the entire 60 minute session - something that is not the norm at insurance-based clinics. In this model, I work for you. I provide this increased quality of care in order to get you better, faster - requiring less total visits as compared to the traditional model and subsequently less total overall costs to you.
*At this time, I am unable to accept clients who are Medicare, Medicaid or VA Healthcare beneficiaries.
Do I need a physician's referral for physical therapy?
No. I am licensed in California (pending) and Connecticut, which are Direct Access states for physical therapy. Rather than getting referred around the healthcare system, you can make an appointment (virtual or in-person) directly with me. Getting the care you need, when you need it - this is how you will save time AND money.
*Of course, if this is an acutely traumatic and/or severely limiting condition please seek in-person emergency assistance as appropriate.
I want to book an appointment! What do I do?
E-mail me at andrew@smietanadpt.com to get the conversation started! We will set up a time together that works for both of us. Based on your chief complaint, I may ask you to complete a quick intake questionnaire, which is to help me better understand your current limitations prior to your initial consultation.
How do I prepare for my virtual appointment?
All you need is a quiet space with good WiFi connectivity and enough room to be able to move around. A laptop works best, or a propped cell phone, as I will be asking you to move your camera during the assessment. Please wear fitness clothing as I will be assessing your movement patterns. Lastly, come prepared with questions and specifics on how I can help you!
What does the initial consultation look like?
We will first get to know each other and I will gain a better understanding as to why you requested our appointment. This will help guide my assessment.
I will then get you moving with my mobility screen and evaluation. We will focus on any specific areas where you experience pain or dysfunction.
Based on your assessment, we will go over certain exercises addressing your individual goals and limitations. We will also develop a plan of action for follow-up, if needed.
What is your cancellation policy?
I understand life happens. If there was a true emergency, please let me know.
100% refund if you cancel with more than 24 hrs notice.
50% refund if you cancel with less than 24 hrs notice.
